Vote In Sunshine conducted an exit poll at the Iowa straw poll, here is what they found:
Ron Paul 332

Mitt Romney 90
Duncan Hunter 12
Hillary Clinton 1
John McCain 5
Sam Brownback 62
John Cox 4

If I were forced to bet one way or the other, I’d say the Ames Straw Poll wasn’t rigged.
But if it came out one day that it was, I wouldn’t be surprised. That 90-minute delay was pretty damn weird, as was the $184,000 bill the Iowa GOP was going to charge the Paul campaign if they’d insisted on paper ballots.
It’s been known to be crooked for quite some time. For kicks, research what was done to Pat Buchanan. After over an hour delay, the results emerged showing the other two candidates tied for 1st (!!!???) and Buchanan in 2nd. I mean what are the odds that two candidates would tie for 1st in such a thing? Regardless, it was clear to all involved that Buchanan had much more support than the others.
It’s obvious that the candidates who pour the most money into the Iowa GOP get the most “favorable consideration” during the secretive vote “counting” process.
It dont surprise me one bit Dr. Ron Paul has got em all scared because he has read History he understand real current events. In country and Abroad he needs to win to save this country from emminent disaster.
I don’t think the voting was rigged. Especially since they moved to the new voting this time. I think it helped that the Sunshine group harassed the GOP and made them go out of their way to have a fair vote count.
Overall, a great effort for Paul considering in February I would have predicted that he would have been beaten soundly by John Fox. How far he has come…
LOL what a joke… this was definitely rigged… lets put RON PAUL aside for a second… isnt it funny that RUDY GIULIANI got less than 2% of the official vote count when he is considered Romney’s major opponent right now?
SAVE AMERICA! VOTE RON PAUL 2008!
Polls are usually good indicators of results. Yes, I am disappointed but to blame it all on cheating makes us sound immature. Accept 5th (a few hundred votes would have changed everything) & try to build on that. RP is battling corporate interests, the GOP “insiders” & lack of coverage from MSM. It’s a wonder he did as good as he did. All we can do is spread the message one person at a time.
A perfect example of why “exit polling” is ridiculous.
Even a simple thing like having the survey people wearing Ron Paul T-Shirts *grossly* skews the result.
The fact is that *every* campaign had two poll-watchers and they signed off on every tally. There were a total of THREE errors, not by the Diebold machines, but by voters not following instructions.
The actual, true tabulation is also deceptive. Factor in the time and money required to achieve the vote count for each of the candidates and there was only ONE winner: Ron Paul. On the basis of any *efficiency* criteria, there was no more productive campaign.
Paul is wisely conserving his resources and working on a solid progression that will peak next January. Everybody else has “shot their whole wad” on a straw poll that was written off by the media before it even started. Paul is “the turtle” ambling past the “rabbits” that have exhausted themselves on a short-term sprint. Paul supporters should be delighted with their achievement.
No, I will never condone cheating, ever! You simply can not allow the American people to continually have their feelings of a corrupt political process be set aside and just accept that there will always be corruption in the vote counting arena. Every time we see corruption and do nothing it lessons who we are as honest freedom loving people. I have principles that are important to me, as I’m sure all of you do as well. I take it as a slap in my face when an entity purports itself to be honest and fair and then betrays that trust! When is enough, going to truly be enough? When? you would have thought the Country would be marching on Washington after Bush stole the first election in Fla. But no, we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Then he did it again in Ohio, and still nothing. What are we people? huh? why do we just take it? what is our fuckin problem? Are we just cowards that do nothing unless it effects our lives in a most direct way. Why so much apathy? Our founding fathers warned future generations of what past Governments have done and how tyranny is slowly foisted upon us if we just opened a book once in while we could discover these warnings. We counted with hand click counters close to 30,000 people leaving the voting area yet only 14,000 or so votes were totaled? Please share with me how this is possible. God, I’m so disgusted.
I was there and would actually be quite surprised if Romney hadn’t won. His win wasn’t actually all that impressive considering the shear numbers of people he bought to attend that day. We’re talking $1 million+ investment, right?
While I think the machines certainly are hackable, this vote seemed in line with the individual candidates’ efforts/popularity with the Republican base in Iowa at this time. True, Paul’s message is building, and Jan 08 will, I predict, bring a different result. The campaign is pleased with 9 percent and considers it a great base from which to work. The media is also noticing and calling Paul’s outcome a victory.
Who knows how this would have played out, however, without Vote in Sunshine’s efforts? Thanks!
Amazing how many write off the likelihood of cheating in the Straw Poll.
The simple and unavoidable fact is that more than 12,000 ticket holders never bothered to vote supposedly./ More than 26,000 paid good money for their tickets, they presumably turned up as all indicators were of a very high turnout, and yet at the end of the day, we come up 12,000 votes short. Incidentally, about the number needed to bring Paul’s tally up to where the Exit polls showed.
The Vote in Sunshine campaign is NOT a Ron Paul organisation, and those who suggest the pollsters would have skewed the results by wearing Ron Paul T-Shirts etc, are just sounding like they are in desperate denial.
So what else is new, Americans in denial about their own screwed up state? I must be on Earth still I guess.
For those who make comments about the way the poll was won, spuriously suggesting the Vote In Sunshine crew might have worn Ron Paul T-Shirts, take note of the official site.

“Vote In Sunshine coalition volunteers were all dressed in VoteInSunshine.com t-shirts – some of which were plastered with buttons and stickers from all of the campaigns. We were received very positively by the vast majority of individuals attending the straw poll as well as many of the volunteers working for the various campaigns. “

Guys, this was NOT rigged! There is a VERY easy explanation to why Ron won the exit polling.
He has a MUCH more diehard support base, so he had almost as many people there who could not vote as he did that could vote. In the exit poll, there’s no requirement to show a state ID.
Ron Paul very well may have brought close to the most people, but very many of them were not eligable to vote.
It was reported by an Iowa GOP worker that the RP campaign insisted on taking pictures inside the voting? Does anyone know if this is true or was it the Sunshine folks? I can see how a lot of yellow shorts could be confusing.

Very simple explanation for the numbers. Romney people were told not to vote in the exit polling, Ron Paul people were encouraged to do the opposite. I’m not sure what the other campaigns were told. Given the little spat by the leader of Sunshine on 1040AM-WHO, I’m suprised as many people participated in the exit polling as they did. I agree with the other commentors who say move on, there is no fraud, and the votes accurately reflected the number of supporters that each candidate had at their tent.
Oh, by the way campaign’s purchased tickets in advance and fairtax, who spent alot of money at the event, also bought alot of tickets in advance. Its common knowledge that most people don’t buy their own tickets, and the people who do, do so because they believe they are helping their candidate. So you have 8 candidates buying tickets in advance, as well as Fairtax and other smaller organizations. I am starting to think that cries of foul are excuses for people to not be on their hustle…
Judging by the comments on this article I am heartened to see so many interested in the political process by becoming industrious watchdogs. Regardless of the straw poll outcome, liberty, and WE THE PEOPLE, are once again prominent!

Ron Paul and the good people who love Ron are in anti-corruption. They are not voting in the exit poll if they are not Iowans. They are anit-establishment, and that is why they are being cheated by the GOP and blackballed by the main stream media.
“I care not who votes, I care only about those who count the votes”
Josef Stalin;
murderous USSR dictator responsible for the deaths of over 30 million of his own people…
Who conducted this “exit poll”?
What are their professional qualifications, other than “loves liberty” (just preempting that one)?
Is 897 out of 14,000 a valid “exit poll” standard?
Were exit pollers placed at all of the exits, to ensure an even sample?
Did they wear clothing that “gave away” that they were with a specific candidate? Someone above hints that they wore Ron Paul T-Shirts. If true, this result is bogus.
Were people who voted for Paul more likely DRAWN to the idea of an “exit poll” in which the vote would be “verified” (considering that they were the most suspicious about potential fraud from the start)?
Begging that question… how was the sample determined? Was it totally random? Did people volunteer to participate? (If so, the sample is crap.)
Before spouting off nonsense conspiracy theories about “WE WUZ ROBBED!!” get your facts straight, and think things through.
I say this konwing that the Black Helicopters Crowd will believe any BS that explains their guy’s failure to connect in Iowa.
Why not just use exit polls instead of voting? They are much more accurate than voting.
1. Mitt Romney with 4516 votes, or 31%
2. Mike Huckabee with 2587 votes and 18.1%
3. Sen. Sam Brownback with 2192 votes, 15.3%
4. Tom Tancredo with 1961 votes, 13.7%
5. Ron Paul with 1305 votes, and 9.1%
6. Tommy Thompson, 1,039 votes, 7.3%
7. Fred Thomson with 203 votes
8. Rudy Giuliani with 183 votes
9. Duncan Hunter with 174 votes
10. John McCain with 101 votes
11. John Cox with 41 votes
Ashley, I hope you were joking.
Actually, exit polls are usually used because they reflect the results pretty accurately, and allow for an early projection of the winner. When they veer off wildly from the final tally, as this one did, something was wrong with the exit poll’s methodology. (luckily, on another blog, a VIS person said this was “all in fun” and not at all a scientific survey.)

To use an exit poll to “prove” that there’s a conspiracy against one candidate in the race is a wild misuse of the exit poll tactic, and introduces bias into the survey right from the start.
Ron’s supporters obviously knew in advance about the exit poll and rushed to “make their voice heard” to “prevent fraud” while the Romney people avoided those yellow shirts like the plague.
