It bothers me deeply when I can’t even get upset about events like this, considering how common they are.
Could be part of the conditioning process?
No, not for me. I read; I see; I understand. But I’ve lost part of the ability to become emotional about it.
Maybe it’s like the “outrage fatigue” mentioned here: http://radgeek.com/gt/2004/06/12/outrage_fatigue/
Horrible, in any case. Horrible for the victims and their families, horrible for the communities that are either scarred by this or absorb it as “normal”, and horrible for the rest who look on, thinking, “oh, they were just doing their jobs”.
