It appears that more than 1,000 Ron Paul supporters showed up for a rally that occured after the Iowa Christian Alliance/Iowans for Tax Relief candidates forum, which refused to invite Dr. Paul, ended.
Not bad considering only about 600 showed up, out of over 1,200 expected, for the big government, war monger forum which included 6 candidates.
UPDATE: Other hands-on accounts found here and here.
UPDATE 2: Press release from the Ron Paul campaign:
Ron Paul Speaks to 1,000 in Iowa
DES MOINES, IOWA – Presidential candidate Ron Paul held a rally today celebrating life and liberty at the Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, Iowa. The event was held immediately after and next door to a Republican candidates forum sponsored by the Iowa Christian Alliance and Iowans for Tax Relief.
Dr. Paul was the only GOP candidate excluded from the forum, so his campaign organized an event of its own. Despite being planned in less than a week, Dr. Paul’s event singlehandedly outdrew the other forum and its six participating candidates by several hundred attendees.
“Today, Ron Paul demonstrated how deeply his message of freedom and limited government is resonating across the nation,” said campaign manager Lew Moore.
Dr. Paul, addressing a packed room, received thunderous applause many times and as well as several standing ovations. Observers believe that this event was the biggest rally for a Republican candidate in Iowa during this campaign cycle.
“Ron Paul has generated more grassroots excitement and support than any other candidate in the race,” continued Moore. “The campaign is building on this momentum around the country as we drive toward the nomination.”
So much for the myth that Ron Paul’s supporters just sit in their basements and spam online polls…like that was even a legitimate concern to begin with.
That is excellent. I wonder how long it will take FOX news and the others to comment on it? They will really be trying to dig up the dirt now on Dr. Paul now.
They’ll probably still continue to just ignore him until the 2nd quarter campaign contributions are released. They’ll know then, as will the rest of America that Ron Paul is for real!
Steven – me too. I am curious if any of the media that covered the flopped forum came over and covered RP’s rally afterwards…
Film with audio, pretty please?
This was the second “Shot heard ’round the world” in Iowa today. The Ron Paul Revolution is now a full-blown movement and CAN NOT BE DEFEATED because we have TRUTH and RIGHTEOUSNESS on our side.
God bless AMERICA! God bless Ron Paul!
Give up on the mainstream media already. Revise your host file to automatically block them and their online advertisers from appearing on your computer — all they do is perpetuate brainwashing and disinformation.
Read local news and alternative international coverage, instead. The mainstream media (that is, the people who have contrlling stakes in those companies) will NEVER have anything good to say about Ron Paul, and if they do, it’s because it serves a hidden agenda to undermine him in some way.
Objective mainstream news is DEAD in America. Bury it and move on.

Here’s a nice headline:
“Ron Paul supporters spam auditorium to capacity!”
Go Ron Paul!!!
Well, it didn’t take long at all:
http://www.iowapolitics.com/index.iml?Article=99314
According to them, Paul had 500 supporters to the forums 800 people. You can tell the slant in the article though. I don’t think this author supports the other repubs, I think he supports the democrats. Hard core liberals see Ron Paul as even more of a threat than the GOP. If RP gets the nomination, there isn’t a chance in hell they will be able to beat him. If the GOP picks anyone else, however, Hillary will be moving into the white house in 2009.
We need to show this kind of support for Ron Paul at every major event. Hopefully television networks won’t be able to ignore us forever. It would be a lot easier to get Ron Paul elected with more than just the Internet as a medium.
I was there and the energy was great. There were folks from all walks of life and from all across America.
IowaPolitics.com has already misrepresented the event. They quoted it as ‘nearly 500’ when there was at least double that amount.
OK so who is going to make sure the AP and other scumbags in the media REPORT THIS ACCURATELY and don’t put a spin on it?
Good luck on that one!
So let’s start writing to CSpan, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, MSNBC….
Hammer them all. I emailed iowapolitics.com immediately. We need to get the correct numbers out there, and fast. Blog posts will help quite a bit.

Again… “hundreds of people….by offering free food” Watch the video attached to the story. Compare the difference in the density of the crowds between the two forums.
What assholes!
Saying that offering free food caused the turnout to be higher than normal is just so typical. God… I really hope he wins a primary or 30. :-)
Here’s an article that “forgot” to even mention Paul, but they did get the forum’s low turnout correct at least:

I drove down there today expecting perhaps a couple small bands of Paul supporters as well as supporters of other candidates. To my surprise, the one street was lined with them on both sides clearly 100% Paul by looking at the signs. When we marched into the building en masse, I overheard event security commenting “this is insane!”, as well as other anonymous suits standing to the side in awe of the crowd. Only about 1/2 the country votes, a large percentage of that only when convenient(off work, etc.). The difference in Paul supporters is that it seems all of them CAN’T WAIT to vote. If Ron Paul wins the nomination and gives the same speech at the convention that he gave in Des Moines he will win by a landslide. I actually lost my good seat when a rumor spread the media was outside and most of the people headed out in a show of force.
Yes, the Des Moines Register published a story about the forum…but not a single word that Ron Paul, nor twice as many supporters, was even there. MSM withered.
How many folks were from out-of-state? How many from Iowa?
One thousand in Iowa. I want to see two thousand or more in Silicon Valley on July 14!

How many chairs were there in the hall?
I hope he wins.
I must also commend the patriot who put a huge Ron Paul Revolution banner on a busy interstate overpass. That was impossible to miss, it was absolute genius.
Hurray! Ron Paul 2008
This is freakin awesome. If he comes anywhere near Atlanta, I will be there, waving signs and what not…
I was there, and visually you could tell that there were many more people in the Ron Paul event than the Debate event. The Counts that were being reported “At the Events” were about 750 in the Debate hall and over 1000 at Ron Paul’s Event. Contrary to what the media is starting to report, I did meet many people from Iowa and the immediately surrounding States at Ron Paul’s event, I traveled 3.5 hours from Dubuque to be there… and nobody contacted me telling me to drive down and bump up his numbers. I have simply heard his message, and it is very close to the one I’ve been espousing for years.
My brothers and I have been discussing the same things, and we’ve arrived at this same viewpoints independently, we live very different live in three states and have only a handful of conversations a year… but we all still seem to be on the same page as far as our disgust for politicians who turn their back on the Constitution, engage in preemptive war, or are willing to suspend rights of select groups.
As for your question as to how many chairs in the two Halls… If I’m not mistaken… there were 1200 chairs set up at the debate, of which just slightly over half seemed to be occupied. At the Ron Paul Event I believe they had 1000 chairs set up, of which only a few seats were empty, you know like a sold out movie theater when you get there late, a chair here unoccupied, another one over there somewhere. There were also a good number of people standing along the walls and at the back, so I’m pretty sure there were more people than chairs, which means more than 1,000.
Won’t the “mainstream” media be so surprised and all up in a tizzy when Ron Paul wins the New Hampshire Republican primary by a HUGE margin. Watch out for the serial hit pieces in all the major outlets once they realize Ron Paul’s support in the American heartland is legitimate and substantial. Uphold the Constitution and Let Freedom Ring! Less than 2% support for Ron Paul?!?!… c’mon Fox, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC… Stop the LYING!!!

Hurray for Ron Paul! Christians and conservatives should stop ignoring him and embrace his campaign for freedom!
“Hard core liberals see Ron Paul as even more of a threat than the GOP”
I don’t quite agree with you here, I am a hard core liberal and I believe that Ron Paul speaks to my basic beliefs far more adequately than any other candidate, Republican or Democrat. I may disagree with him here and there, but nevertheless I am registering as a republican and voting for him because he represents the ideals of the founding fathers, and seems to be the only one telling the truth (Mike Gravel is close, but even he pulls his punches compared to Ron Paul)!
Should those of us who are registered as Independents or Democrats (in other words, not Republicans), but back Ron Paul, as I do, change their voter registration to Republican so that they can vote in the Primary … the election where the party votes in their candidate? I believe it is necessary to be a party member to vote in the Primary. That is going to be the most important election for Paul. Please excuse my ignorance if I’ve missed something, but I think that there are probably a lot of people out there like me, and that we need to change our party to get Paul in. Set me straight if I’m incorrect.
Wait until Bloomberg runs… him and Dr. Paul will send the politico’s into a frenzy!
ineptuser, please don’t talk about Bloomberg…haven’t you heard he’s trying to stop free speech in NYC by coming up some BS about filming a cop being ‘wiretapping’ or ‘filming a documentary’ which would require a $1million permit (or higher)?
As for the numbers, I was there. There were a thousand seats, and they were jam packed, and there were people standing. Assuming maybe 50 seats in the back here and there empty, and assuming at least 50 people standing, calling it 1000 people in attendance is conservative.
Thats is very bad indeed.

I’m in VA and we do not have to be registered in either party to vote in the Primary. You can vote for who ever you want. However, not all states are like this. Please make sure you know the details in your state and vote for Dr. Paul in the primary.
Just another Ron Paul spambot here checking in. You know typing stuff in comments, voting in online polls… there are about 10,000 of us online just spamming away. This weekend was huge for us spambots, we all took physical form and drove to Iowa to hear Dr. Paul speak.

More proof that we need to keep firing up the troops. Sure we are small in $$$ next to large corps, but we have what they don’t, which is heart. We need to convert the media lackeys who hear the same crap from the MSM by exposing them to all of Dr. Paul’s message.
Hey everyone, we should stop calling it the “mainstream media”. The internet clearly has a better take on what’s REALLY happening in the world (and not just with the Ron Paul campaign.)
So how about some new terms.
I think calling the internet, “New Media” fits.
That relegates the former “mainstream media” to what it has become…
Old Media.
K.
God bless the new media. If it wasn’t for this new media I would not have a clue on what a success the rally was in Iowa. I’m in my 50s and you young people make me so proud of all the things you are doing for Ron Paul. Thank you for getting the word out to every one and for all the hard work you are doing.

Rally a success? You can vote for who ever you want. However, not all states are like this. Even in the primaries. No need to be registered.
I was at the rally.
Here are the numbers, and where I think they came from.
If they say: They are talking about:
————- ———————–
a few hundred sign wavers starting about 12
650 people who ate the free food
700 – 900 people who came only to hear RP
over 1000 including hanger-ons from IfTR forum
If they haven’t found dirt on Dr. Paul by now, he probably doesn’t have any, which means they’ll have to fabricate it. I think they’ll be an uprising if anything happens to him. Go Ron!
[…] Huge turn out for Ron Paul in Iowa […]
The thing that most RP supporters don’t seem to understand is that consciousness needs to be contagious. If you haven’t spread the
Gospel of (Ron)Paul to everyone you know, you are failing to fulfill your duty to your children and this country. Voting can be an act of rebellion. Rebel against the establishment and the election time convergence of the two parties. Elect Ron Paul dammit!
This is wonderful. Has a press release been sent to all of the hometown newspapers?
GO RON PAUL!!!! We Love YOU!
Mainstream media?
Geee, , , , , I have been calling it the “Establishment Media” for years!
Most people think the there is a government ownership in it, but actually it is just the other way around!
The same “Insiders” “Globalist” or “International Bankers”,,, whatever you want to call them, own or/and control both.
They are the ones that sponser things like this immigration reform that was almost shoved down our throats. We truly have the very best politicians that money can buy!
That immigration issue proves that it is the voice of the people that move mountains,,,, If they dig their heads out of the blasted TV, far enough to get the truth!
One reason why I refer to the people as sheeple!
We live in Ron’s district. “Make the choices they don’t give you: Vote Ron Paul!” would be a good bumpersticker. The Old Media will never acknowledge Ron Paul because they are paid minions of the NWO, dedicated to media-ting confusion between the globalists (inbred psychopathic bullies you can never trust) & us (U.S.) commoners with common sense & decency not yet bred out of us. Ron supports a gold standard that will destroy their fiat money slave system and respects life & quality of life (increasingly uncommon today in our medical system). He offers a chance to turn around the satanic agenda to microchip everybody by glammor/force (cf. Loyola conference), & supporting him is a necessity.
I am a WII Vet.89 yrs old. I am so proud of all you younger people who are showing your true belief, and Love of this great nation,by coming forward and carrying the
banner for Mr.Ron.Paul,a loyal American and dedicated leader.
Go Paul!
