rtbohan compares Bob Barr with William Wirt:
This year, there is a feeling among some that, in Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party has nominated its own version of William Wirt. It has chosen a candidate whose political career as an office holder has been as a conservative, with a preference for smaller, cheaper government but little else of a libertarian about him. His most notable actions, and those on which he spent the most effort, attacking medical marijuana, supporting the Patriot Act, the Defense of Marriage Act, were not only not libertarian, they were anti-libertarian.
Bob Barr has a solid record of being authoritarian, the polar opposite of libertarian.
rthoban is a retard if he thinks Barr spent “the most effort” “supporting” thePATRIOT Act. Barr spent all his political capital trying to gut the PATRIOT Act, which is why Karl Rove ran him out of Congress.
You contradict your own quote. Barr is not anti-libertarian by any stretch of the imagination. He is perhaps right-libertarian, if your fixation is on legalizing crack sales to minors. Honestly, who gives a crap about DOMA? We have such bigger problems. Besides, Barr’s position is now the same as Ron Paul’s – that marriage stuff should be left to the states. What’s your beef?
Of the available candidates, he is orders of magnitude more libertarian on ANY issue. Why are you trying to cut him down?
The problem with some libertarian bloggers are that no one will ever be enough for them. Why can’t you just accept that no cadidate is perfect? Ever if they were perfect for YOU they would never get elected because nobody thinks exactly like you. Bob Barr will advance the cause of liberty and libertarianism. Why can’t you see that? And why is that a bad thing?
