Lew Rockwell writes:
Ronald Reagan lost the Iowa caucuses in 1980 before going on to victory. And this year, Ron Paul got more than 10% of a bunch dominated by older party hacks, neocons, Bush lovers, and religious rightists. It was NOT a group equivalent to the people of Iowa, let alone the people of New Hampshire or the rest of the country. Indeed, considering the media hate and suppression campaign waged almost unanimously against him, this was a credible finish.
UPDATE: Ron Paul takes home 2 delegates. Additionally, he is one of only three candidates that won entire counties.
UPDATE2: Ron Paul was the winner among Independent voters.
Correction, he got 9.75%, not 10%.
Correction, only 86% of the GOP vote is in at this moment, according to CNN. Jefferson Co. Iowa has the potential to be a Ron Paul heavy county, too — and they are at 0% reporting so far.
Looks like my predictions at TPW were pretty close to the target, though.
Just have to say that 9.75& rounds up to 10% when you are ignoring decimals (as a lot of sites are)….
I find it funny when people quibble over a rounding difference…
BTW – CNN amoung others is rounding to the nearest whole number…
Its only the beginning folks. Ron didn’t spend alot of money or time there so I didn’t expect him to finish very well. I am happy he’s at double digits though considering its IOWA.. The land of subsidies and the cross. New Hampshire will be a new story.
It’s almost midnight here in the midwest, and 93% of the precincts have reported.
I’ve been watching the votes come in consistantly from the begining, and I have noticed something in RP’s votes fom the last update: correct me if I’m wrong, but at one point before the last update he had 11,232 votes. Then, after the latest update, his vote actually DROPPED down to 11,216. No one elses vote totals changed, as far as I can see. Did I miss something here?

Anyone who thinks that Ron Paul will do better in new hampstah than in Iowa is living in a pollyanna world.
Iowa is a land of home schoolers. New Hampstah is a land of granite-headed people, most of whom are from south of that border. These are people who giggle at Ron Paul’s take on Lincoln and who are not afraid to embrace science. They’ve laughed at Lyndon LaRoush and they likely aren’t going to waste their vote on a guy who is afraid to run as the libertarian that he truly is. People from new hampstah like people to be honest and real (well, okay, so we are talking about political whores), and they aren’t going to go out of their way to vote for a guy who hides behind the panty-waisted skirts of the GOP.

He didn’t do too badly. I suspect he’ll perform much better in NH, Nevada, and a few others. People in Iowa love their farm subsidies too much.
