Poor Huckabee is getting so frightened that his war-mongering, neocon positions might be exposed he is resorting to force to suppress the information (surprise!):
Sgt. Vincent Valdez of the Des Moines Police Department said officers responded to an early afternoon complaint from the Huckabee Campaign office and arrested Robert Braam, Mona Shaw and Kathy Kelly…Valdez said the officers had no trouble making the arrests and the three were taken to the Polk County jail.
In a news release issued earlier by the Des Moines Catholic Worker, Kelly, co-director of VCNV, was quoted as saying, “We’re very respectful of the Iowa caucus process and the long history behind it but we feel quite strongly that the issues of this war must be inserted into the process of narrowing down the candidates for the presidential election.”
Huckabee spokesperson, Eric Woolson, could not be reached for comment after several attempts.
Now if he could just get the cops to shoot Ron Paul, as he has been wishing for, he would be a happy camper.
Well, that is VERY upsetting.
I believe that it is a good question for Huckabee since he is the candidate that says that he is the “Christian” choice’. How many innocent people have been killed in this unjust war? What bothers me is the that he had these people arrested. They looked harmless enough. I feel like I am voting for the real Christian, Ron Paul. I judge that by the way he lives his life. He would have talked to the protesters. He would not have had them arrested.
Wait a minute; how can you just “have someone arrested?” Don’t they have to be doing something illegal? Since when is asking, “Who would Jesus bomb?” a crime? What were these folks charged with? Can I just “have someone arrested?” I think these three need to contact an attorney…
They were arrested for trespassing at Hackabee’s compaign HQ. The article doesn’t say if they were asked to leave or not. I’m kind of curiou about that…
Hey Folks,
Yes, we were asked to vacate private property. Our refusal ensured that we would be arrested. Yet, as is noted here in these comments, Mr. Huckabee could have chosen to engage us. I cannot say what would have ensued in that case. In the end Mr. Huckabee’s silence became his statement. Our arrests became ours.
We are intent on bringing to light the death and devastation that the military policy of the Bush administration has wrought on the Iraqi people. If we have to break trespassing laws, and deal with the personal consequences of those charges, then that’s just what we feel we have to do. This nation must have the strength to look itself in the face. We must reflect on the toll of this war. We shouldn’t, in all good conscious, hide on a bus.
