- Total debt and unfunded liabilities in the US economy are reaching nearly 50 Trillion dollars for the public sector and another 30 Trillion for the private sector. Unless your family can pay it’s million dollar share of the bill, it doesn’t take a genius to see that the US is set up for an economic disaster in the next few years exactly like the one Ron Paul has been loudly warning about.
- Ron Paul is an experienced doctor and understands the needs of the medical industry as well as all the BS that drives up prices and causes costs to spiral out of control.
- Ron Paul is a senior citizen, and understands the needs of the elderly, but also the fraud like ponzi scheme underlying the Social Security system.
- Ron Paul is the 2nd highest rated congressman by taxpayer advocates.
- Ron Paul is the highest rated congressman by technology groups.
- Ron Paul has the support of many people who hate the war in Iraq because he voted against the Iraq War Resolution.
- Ron Paul has the support of many who love the war in Iraq. Why? Even the most staunch advocates of the war realize that the US can no longer win this war on credit like we did against the old USSR. It must be based on a stable long term economic prosperity where printed up money can’t over saturate society with bond backed debt or inflation. He is also an outspoken opponent of the UN, and they have back-stabbed US interests in Iraq many times.
- Living in Texas, Ron Paul isn’t clueless about immigration issues.
- Ron Paul has the Libertarian vote locked up.
- All of those are good reasons, but the main reason is that the powers that be in the US aren’t stupid. When the US dollar suffers it’s pre-destined currency-collapse/ great-depression, all the tried and true BS excuses won’t fly. There will be trillions of dollars worth of pressure to do something about it, and all that pressure will take the political form of supporting Ron Paul who understands that the Federal Reserve is full of it, and that gold is money that can’t be fraudulently watered down.
The US is not like other economies. When Argentina ruins their currency, investors just pull out and park it in the States, but when the things go to hell in the States there will be few options. Europe and Japan will go down with us because our economies are inter-connected; China, India, and Brazil don’t have enough economic freedoms to support an exit strategy; and the rest of the world is either too small or too messed up to handle it. That means there is only one option, a trillion dollar fight to the death to kick Washington DC’s ass and force them to get their act together. Ron Pauls position to kill the income tax, most Cabinet departments and the Federal Reserve is just the kind of ass kicking the doctor ordered.

His anti-war, anti-censorship, pro-private enterprise in space positions are very impressive. http://www.paullevinson.net/archives/ron_paul_at_very_least_the_mos.phtml
Nice List.
I believe the monetary issues are key. Unfortunately many are ignorant of them and they don’t fit well into a sound bite.
When Ross Perot did his thing in 1992 he paid for several 1/2 hour TV programs where he explained his positions.
I think Paul may need to do something similar. Only with the internet, he won’t have to spend millions. If he is going to reach “Joe 6 Pack” he is going to have to convince him of some these key issues.

Hi, actually I’m an old friend, having watched Ron Paul with my sub-radar vision for about 15 years. I agree with your 10 reasons, and would add that the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage “industry” is potentially the highest-impact reason of all. The vapor-paper this industry has generated is the “backing” of “mortgage-backed securites,” which, of course, are neither backed by any substance nor secure. Handily, these instruments of destruction are the unsubstance of things like pensions and hedge funds. Obviously this will reverb throughout every economic sector on the planet. And Ron Paul will be the only candidate with a handle on any answers and solutions.
Now: who’s going to get on the horn to the tip lines and tell the establishment media that Ron Paul is running for President?
The established media is well on it’s way to the grave.
The continue to push an agenda the American people don’t want. They are noise in my house and then I turn it off.
I’ve written an inspirational piece about Ron Paul. Feel free to read it and use it at http://www.iocca.us
Ron Paul does not have the Libertarian vote “locked up.” Most Libertarian Party members are supporting either Wayne Root, Michael Jingozian or Doug Stanhope for President. Some are even supporting 2nd tier candidates like Steve Kubby, Gene Chapman and George Phillies.
The vast majority of Libertarian Republicans are supporting Rudy Giuliani for President.
The latest news is that Ed Crane of Cato is even “warming up” to him. This coming on the heels of Larry Kudlow, Stephen Moore, and even Steve Forbes backing Giuliani.
It is correct to say that Ron Paul has the “Paleo-Conservative” and “Anarchist” vote locked up. But among Libertarians, his support is not that strong.
Particularly now, since his poor performance on HBO’s Bill Mahr Show the other night.

Giuliani? Libertarian? Yeah right. I’m a member of the LP and I am supporting Ron Paul.
Ron Paul, a “libertarian”? Yeah right. Ron Paul doesn’t want to defend our country against Islamo-Fascism. He thinks it’s a “non-issue.” If we just leave them alone, they’ll go away.
How is that libertarian?
Do you realize what the Islamo-Fascists want to do to us?
They want to kill us or covert us. And if you’re Jewish, SOL. You don’t get a choice. You just get carted off to the Gas Chambers under Islamo-Naziism.
And Libertarians? Hell, we’ll proceed even the Jews to the Gas Chambers under an Islamo-Fascist regime.
The Islamo-Fascists HATE Marijuana smokers. They want to cut off the genitals of all Gays. They stone “loose women” to death in their town squares.
Do you even pay attention to what’s going on in Europe?
The Muslim “Youth” (should read Radicals) rioted in the streets again in Paris just two weeks ago.
Is that what you want to happen here?
Oops, sorry, scratch that. They’ve already arrived.
The gunman at that Salt Lake City shopping mall last month who gunned down 10, killing 5 shouted “Allah Ahu-Ahkbar” 3 times before the SLC PD killed him.
And Ron Paul thinks “ah, Islamic Radicalism, not a problem.”
How is that Pro-Liberty? What good is Liberty if you are dead??
Yup, Ron Paul is a Libertarian in the true sense of the word.
Eric Dondera (AKA a former disgruntled employee of Dr. Paul’s):
Congressman Paul goes by the Constitution. He mentioned in Congress after September 11 that the Constitution would allow Congress to set a bounty for Osama. If Congress had set a, let’s say, $10 billion bounty for Osama bin Laden at that time, they may have caught him. It was the best idea for finding America’s attacker at that time and he was ignored by Congress, which instead decided to go to war in Iraq against Saddam, who had nothing to do with 9/11.
THAT’s liberty against Islamo-fascists. Not anything that Rudy Guiliani is spewing. (Although I guess you could say that– Rudy believes in having a mistress at the same time as a wife, right? I guess that is true liberty.)
Yes, the monetary issue does indeed fit into a soundbite.
To quote Congressman Paul: “The dollar that Congress handed over to the Federal Reserve in 1913 is now worth only 4 cents.”
Raise your hand if you would like to exchange every dollar you own for 25 new ones.
The Federal Reserve is the root of all evil.
Hey, yeah, that’s the ticket. That’s the way to fight Islamo-Fascism. Hire a bunch of Orange-spandex wearing Worldwide Wrestling Champion Bounty Hunters named “Dog” and “Killer,” get ‘em a bunch of good horses, and set them loose in the Western Mountains of Pakistan.
Yeah Baby! I’ll bet they’d catch Bin Laden in a week.
And nothing to worry about from Islamo-Fascism. I mean after all, looks whats going on in Europe. Just because they’re murdering Jews, Free Speech Advocates, and Documentary Film Producers there, doesn’t mean they’re not a “Religion of Peace.”
And as far as “disgruntled” employee, you too would be “disgruntled” if your boss sent you out to every VFW and American Legion post in the entire District for 5 years as the only Veteran on staff to convince the Vets that Ron Paul was a good solid “Reagan/Bush Conservative” who supported our Troops, while at the same time telling Leftists and Leftist Libertarians nationwide that he was a “Non-interventionist.”
Hey Disinter, here we are April 15. And Ron Paul hasn’t moved one bit in the polls. He’s still hovering around 0 to 2% in all national polls. He’s raised about $1 million, 1/30th of what Giuliani has raised.
And he’s had nothing but dissastorous performances on National TV like the pathetic showing on Bill Mahr.
You still want to predict that Ron Paul will win the election?
Eric Dondero, Fmr. Senior Aide
US Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX)
Eric your nothing but a stupid liberal trying to undermine Dr. Paul because hes the only threat to your liberal idealogy.
Ron has my first-ever donation to a Presidential campaign !
First off, thanks for reposting the list I wrote, it was a pleasant supprise to see it while reading reddit. Thanks to everyone else who made supporting comments.
Second, libertarians for Giuliani? You can’t be serious. Look at his record on the right to bear arms, the war, privacy rights, national ID, the income tax, corporate welfare, internet censorhip, pricacy. Sure, if it was between him or Hillary, but while Ron Paul is up there all bets are off.
Third, islamo facists? Oh Please. You are 100 times more likely to be killed by a drunk driver than a terrorist. I don’t need protection from terrorists, I need protection from a currency collapse and taxes taking half of everything I own.
Fourth, YES I predict Ron Paul will win the election. The economic fundamentals are pure fact. Not one other candidate has even bothered to mention inflation, the debt, the IRS, and the federal reserve. HOW COULD THEY IGNORE IT! How could you! Before election day, the economic pressures will be kicking peoples asses to the point – it will be unaviodable. This isn’t just politics anymore, it is an economic battle for survival. The polls on the internet were telling a different story. People on the Internet are more exposed to the facts, when those same facts come arround to kick everyone elses butt – you will see quite a different picture.
Great positive article, keep up the good work.
Sounds like Mr. Dondero needs a hug.
Ron Paul may be our last hope of a return to greatness as a civilization.
Check your US history and see how and why this country was founded and how it was run during the lifetimes of the Founders. We had no standing income tax and no standing army because those things are *always* abused in the end. Our Founders knew that, that’s why we had property taxes, sales taxes and a citizen militia.
Look at everything that’s gone wrong. Realize that a vote for *any* of the Establishment figureheads only supports more of the same, a larger and more corrupt government.
And Giuliani? There’s not even room to list everything that’s wrong with him – any responsible voter should go look it up for themselves.
We of the independencejournal.com wholly support Ron Paul. His concepts directly agree with our philosophies which we have been touting for years and this once great nation is in for a tough times ahead as their really is no difference between political parties anymore due to the massive lobby dollars flowing into Washington. Nextelection money is what directs this country, not the politicians. Ron Paul is a breath of much needed air although probably too late to save us…
During the last election Eric was touting to everyone about the next great libertarian: Joe Lieberman!
Eric Dondero Rittberg is nothing but a third rate NEOCON stooge. Eric is the polar opposite of a libertarian.
I believe Ron Paul is our greatest living American Statesmen. I’m confident that Ron Paul will go down in history as the bright spot in these otherwise unsettling times of Neo-Conservatism lead, but Bipartisan implemented, empire building.
I’ve donated twice so far to Ron Paul’s campaign, and I’m attending a Ron Paul related Meetup.com meeting this week.
I urge others to contribute their time and effort to their maximum in order to give Ron Paul a shot at restoring the U.S. Constitution and reestablishing our country as a beacon of Liberty throughout the world.
Go Ron Go!
With all this internet groundswell of support for Ron Paul, it’s amazing that the MSM isn’t racing to cover the phenomenon.
I suspect that, if Ron Paul holds his own in the debate tomorrow night, the MSM will no longer be able to ignore the overwhelming on-line buzz for Ron Paul. The MSM will then have to relent and begin to give Ron Paul his due, and maybe even play him up, for what they perceive to be his novelty value, to boost ratings (a la Peter Finch in “Network”, who represented the fed-up people who were mad as hell and taking it anymore!).
Hopefully, Ron Paul fares better than Peter Finch’s movie character did.
Truth be told, I’m actually kinda worried that, if Ron Paul begins to surge and make headway in the public spotlight and the MSM, someone will try to take him out. Ron Paul and his way of thinking represent a threat to certain vested interests. I hope he’s got a competent, quick-reflexed and well-armed security detail watching over him.
Eric, The polls you are talking about are not scientific because the pollsters are recieving profit for their research from lobbyists and politicians. This would never get approved in a scientific journal and if you are so sure that it would then go to the journal Science(http://www.sciencemag.org) and submit your research for publication. I also think that Ron Paul’s performance on the Bill Maher show was brilliant.
Funny watching Mr. Dondero scramble around trying to discredit Congressman Paul. Keep it up Eric, show us your true colors :)
Ron Paul is by far the most popular choice for Libertarians. I have been a libertarian since th e 1960s. I attended the founding convention of the Libertarian Party in 1972, and I currently serve as a County Chair of the Libertarian Party. My entire county organization is totally supporting Ron Paul.
Many other Libertarians support Ron Paul. Find out more @ http://www.libertariansforpaul.com
Heh. I see the “libertarians for giuliani” gave up on that line in April.
Your neighbors up North in Canada are supporting Ron Paul also. We want to be friends again!
Reason 11: Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate with significant cash who supports our sacred human right to own effective firearms for the defense of our liberty. Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, Romney, and McCain sure don’t.
Dondero has his panties in a twist over Ron Paul because Dr. Paul FIRED HIM from his staff.
http://www.reason.com/blog/show/120338.html
“Reason: Your former staffer Eric Dondero is challenging you for your House seat in 2008.
Paul: He’s a disgruntled former employee who was fired.”
Afterwards Dondero obviously turned into a Neocon.
Eric, get a life. You are not doing yourself any favors. Stop listening to Hannity and Levin. Start thinking for yourself.
We are spending $12 billion per month to fight Islamofascists? Anyone who thinks this is good way to spend taxpayers’ money (or rather borrow money for the purpose from the Chinese), is just plain brainwashed.
Second, we are not fighting Islamofscists. We are trying to unravel a botched attempt to annex the Iraqi oilfields and secure “our” oil supply. Our soldiers are now protecting the fat cat employees and contractors of Halliburton and the like.
It is a joke. Bush lied to us. Only Ron Paul warned the nation of the dire consequences of this ill-advised neo-con escapade. People with a conscience can’t stand by and see the loss of life and destruction, without revulsion.
Stop putting your character on display with these senseless posts about the most honorable man in the political arena. The more you rant and rave the worse you look by comparison and the lower you fall in the estimation of the public.
I’m not surprised you swallow all this neo-con deceit. You have a problem seeing the wood from the trees. Your judgments are at best erroneous and lacking in understanding. Just one of many examples:
“Do you realize what the Islamo-Fascists want to do to us?”
Yes, they just want us off their holy land and stop interfering in the internal affairs of the Middle East. That sounds reasonable to me.
“They want to kill us or covert us.”
That’s BS. “They” are handful of thugs. We are a nation of 300 million freedom loving people. You must have a very low esteem of your ability to defend your self and your freedoms.
“And if you’re Jewish, SOL. You don’t get a choice. You just get carted off to the Gas Chambers under Islamo-Naziism.”
They have lived on Israel’s borders for the past 60 years and very little harm has come to the Jewish nation. They can rant and rave (similarly to what you are doing) all they like. Their bark is infinitely worse than their bite. People like you and Hannity have given them far more credibility and stature than they ever had. Treat them with the contempt they deserve. They must be holding their sides in laughter, and incredulity every time they read or hear your kind of reasoning. The damage we have done to ourselves since 9/11 is far worse than what they inflicted on us on that day.
“And Libertarians? Hell, we’ll proceed even the Jews to the Gas Chambers under an Islamo-Fascist regime.”
This is so ridiculous it defies logic. Do you have any ability to reflect soberly on what you write before you publish it? Evidently not.
There seems to be an up rising across the world. One that is much different than the past. Humanity seems to be developing a conscience. Whether its Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan, or America people seem to be rising up against the powers that have keep them under control for too long. It seems that technology and human consciousness are evolving at the same rate. This is unnoticeable until the rate of change is increased and the numbers begin to get large. When society learns something new that enlightens them to a better understanding of how something works they evolve. Technology allows that information exchange to take place. So as this ever increasing rate of technology is evolved so to will humanity.
Ron Paul and is supporters are signs of the same surge of evolvement happening in America. Here is a man denied access by the main stream media but is growing tremendously on line. The main stream media cannot control the online information exchange. The exciting part for those who like this trend and the scary part for the FOX fans out there is this. The statistics show the amount of people on line today will doubled by this time next year (2009). Now hang on it gets better. That 2009 number will then be doubled again in 2010 and then that number will be doubled again in 2011. Finally the 2011 numbers are predicted to double again in 2012 before showing signs of slowing down. WOW!
So imagine what we know now, and what we may learn over the next 4 years.
Ron Paul represents more than a presidential candidate with a strong internet following. He represents an evolution of change that is taking place at an ever increasing rate. That evolution also has a conscience that will be growing in humanity at the same rate as technology. Remember as one learns something new they evolve. As society learns that the main stream media has been altering the news to sell the wealth’s agenda, they too will evolve. Ron Paul will go down in history as being a major contributor towards the evolution of peace and humanity.

#11 … might want to add “newsletters” actually that notion sort of collapses the list, well, there’s always the next best guy with similar values, Dennis Kucinich.
The best thing that could happen for the political debate in the US right now is for Ron Paul to overwhelm the RNC with the kind of grassroots support that the Obama/Edwards campaigns have championed. If conservative voters choose Ron Paul over Romney, and the RNC chooses Romney as their candidate in contradiction, they risk sending a dead fish to a bull fight in the general election. Paul has the kind of experience with the so called “broken” system of governemnt that he can actually stand strong in debate on some of the deep philosophical issues at the root of many existing and flawed, and challenging upcoming policy decisions that only a statesman(or woman) can really interpret; the country cannot afford to commercialize and sound-byte out this discussion at this time- we need to engage, and Paul brings the maxims of truly republican concerns to the forefront. Ultimately, the left has been engaged and has finally come around to organizing better, and now that Paul’s message is out there on the right, the organizations are being forced to break rank because people are becoming engaged – truly unfortunate for the RNC’s dogmatism and curtained approach of the last 25 years.
I’m supporting Obama because he’s got a sophisticated slyness with a genuine chocolate hope center, but I want to see a dogfight out there and I think people want it to be over actual issues and the efficacy of the evidence – The right’s only choice is Paul if they want to win the general, and after the top democrats debate him, should he win, the left may be seduced by some of the principles of government’s role in the life of the individual that have been lost of recent, and upon which our democracy was formed, and which Paul supports more fervrently than the democrats. He definately has the potential to be a statesman of epic quality.
VOTE RON PAUL IN 2008!
